Fair Haven is a wealthy community located in Monmouth County. Nestled snugly on the Rumson Peninsula, this town is bordered by Little Silver and Red Bank to the west and Rumson to the east. The Navesink River runs along the town’s northern border.
History
The town of Fair Haven was first settled in 1816 by Jeremiah Chandler. By 1850, the town was a regular stop for steamboats on the New York-Red Bank run. In the 1850’s, a free black man named Charles Williams built a home in the area, which is still occupied by his descendants to this day. After this house was constructed, more residents moved into the area.
Fair Haven was originally part of Shrewsbury Township. However, in 1912, the New Jersey State Legislature incorporated the area as a borough.

Fair Haven offers a number of exciting activities for residents and visitors alike. For example, the Parks & Recreation department maintains four different parks, including McCarter Pond, the Harding Bird Sanctuary, the Fair Haven Fields Natural Area and the Fair Haven Fields Recreation Area. Throughout the year, Fair Haven Parks & Recreation also hosts many scheduled activities, including movies in the park, egg hunts, tree lighting, parades, concerts and an annual fishing derby.
In nearby Red Bank, you can experience gourmet and casual dining, world-class shopping, fine arts and much more. Likewise, Fair Haven is also close to the many Monmouth and Ocean County beach communities, making it an ideal location for anyone who enjoys spending time enjoying the sand and sun.
